I had a great time meeting Jamie of Lasting Impressions over coffee. She was super fun to chat with and is really passionate about what she does!
What is the inspiration for your business? How did you get started?
I knew at a young age I wanted to impact peoples lives and make a difference in the world. I thought maybe I needed to go into the medical field to make those dreams come true, but one day I realized I did not. My god mother is a cosmetologist so I’ve been around hair for quite some time. Sitting back watching her I realized how much people confide in their hairstylist and how much she impacted her clientele. Their attitudes and smile completely changed from the time they came in to the time they left. Life is stressful and we deserve to be pampered! Something as simple as a shampoo and blow-dry would make them feel so much better, and to know she put that smile on their face and made them feel beautiful inspired me to want to do the same.
What keeps you motivated to face the challenges small business owners face?
The rewarding feeling at the end of every event makes me forget about the bad days and keeps me pushing forward. To make someone feel beautiful and to see that smile on their face makes my job extremely rewarding. I love making people feel beautiful and comfortable in their own skin.
What is your greatest fear, and how do you manage fear?
I’ve always feared someone not liking their hair. Rejection can be scary to many people, but what I’ve realized is my job is all about communication. If their isn’t enough communication during the consultation then it may not be the best experience for that client. I take pride in what I do and I learn from every experience to make the next even better.
What is your best advice for a bride-to-be?
Start looking for hairstylists when you begin to look for other vendors. A trial is so important to make sure you love who you’re possibly hiring, they understand what you want and your style, and you get to see what your hair would look like on your special day as well as coordinating any details. You get to preview different styles so you know what you love and don’t love on you. It makes the day of your wedding stress free because you already know what you’re getting and that you love it!
What characteristics does your ideal client carry?
A relaxed, free spirit and fun person! I love to have a good time and enjoy the time I spent with every client.
