Meet Uche of Designs by Oochay Floral & Events. Her business provides handcrafted backdrops and floral arrangements for weddings and events. They floral arrangements range from bouquets to centerpieces. They work with each client to design and provide decor for weddings. Uche has always been inspired by beautiful decor, whether it’s at a wedding or home. She’s the girl who is subscribed to Architectural Digest, Houzz, and many other design magazines. While she always had a passion for design and all things creative, she grew a love for flowers while planning her own wedding in 2009. While she planned for her own wedding she learned a lot about flowers, their seasons, meanings and so on. This started a growing passion for florals as well as design and she hasn’t stopped since. Like many small business owners, Uche started with friends and family and has the pleasure of watching her clientele grow with her business.
What is your best advice for a bride-to-be? Be open to ideas and set realistic expectations. Social media is a wonderful tool for brides but it can lead to high expectations. Be honest with yourself about how much you are willing to spend for your wedding.
What is your favorite thing about a wedding day? EVERYTHING! Specifically, seeing the bride’s face lit up with excitement when she receives her bouquet.
When I asked Uche what she is most afraid of her response was honest and real… Uche is most of afraid of failure. But not how you might thing, she is afraid of failure of never trying. Uche wants to explore the ‘what ifs’ so she doesn’t look back and wonder. She would rather try and fail than not try at all. She doesn’t want to let the fear of something hold her back from trying altogether.
In Uche’s spare time she is a firm believer in retail therapy. 😉 She’s a shopper! Although with spending time with her family over a good movie and a glass or two of wine. In order to make time for herself, she schedules her time as much as possible. She is a mother, a wife, a daughter, a sister, and a business owner. So planning is important to organize her time. Uche carves out one weekend a month with no weddings/events just to spend with her family-I love this! I also find that it’s very important to be aware of time, especially when we are being pulled in so many directions. Setting aside time for ourselves and loved ones is just as important as booking meetings with clients.
