A Gloomy Morning in Georgetown, DC

We spent a Saturday morning exploring Georgetown while my in-laws were in town for a long weekend. They were in DC for the weekend to catch the Commanders vs. Seahawks game, but before football took over, we had a little time to wander around one of the cutest neighborhoods in the city.

We started with coffee from Compass Coffee, because what's a morning of exploring without coffee? We wandered through the streets, popped into a few shops, and I made a quick stop at Tuckernuck just to see what they had. And of course, we couldn't pass up Van Leeuwen for ice cream. Coffee and ice cream before noon? No judgment here.

There was also a small mishap along the way. Poor Philip accidentally dropped Meredith's green tea chia drink right onto the street. Thankfully, it didn't end up all over any of us, and honestly, Meredith wasn't even a huge fan of it. We were mostly going for the bright colors anyway. So, I guess that was one way to solve the problem!

The skies were gray and overcast, but thankfully, the rain held off while we walked. We wandered past beautiful homes, explored the charming little streets, and eventually made our way down to the waterfront.

One of my favorite things to do when exploring a new place is take photos of the houses, and Georgetown did not disappoint. The row houses are just so cute! The colorful doors, brick facades, little details, and charming streets make you want to slow down and look at everything. I could have spent the whole morning just wandering around and snapping photos.

Georgetown is one of those places that makes a simple morning out feel like a little adventure. You can grab a coffee, browse a few shops, get something sweet, wander down streets you didn't plan on taking, and just enjoy being somewhere new. And you don't need perfect weather to enjoy it, either.

If you're ever visiting DC, put Georgetown on your list.

Give yourself a few hours, wear comfortable shoes, bring your camera, and leave a little room for coffee, ice cream, and whatever catches your eye along the way.

Gray skies and all, it was a pretty great way to spend a Saturday morning.
